I’ve always believed that our homes should be filled with pieces that not only look beautiful but also carry meaning. That’s why I’m constantly drawn to artists and makers whose work brings soul, story, and originality into a space. Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and discovering some incredibly talented local creatives each with their own unique voice and vision.
Today, I’m sharing a few of these inspiring individuals with you. Whether you’re an art lover, a design enthusiast, or simply someone who values craftsmanship, I think you’ll love exploring their work as much as I did.
Linda Lovell – Expressive Landscapes Full of Joy
Instagram: @lindalovellart
Linda’s artwork celebrates the natural world through bold, expressive brushwork and a vibrant, nuanced palette. Her visible, deliberate strokes do more than define forms—they create a sense of movement and texture that brings each canvas to life. By capturing the shifting moods and quiet beauty of nature, Linda invites viewers to experience its joyful essence firsthand.
“I’m captivated by the vibrant colors and intricate shapes that surround us. I’m particularly fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow, and how they sculpt compelling forms within a scene. Using my brush marks, I translate this beauty onto canvas, creating something both unique and dynamic. Nature is, and always will be, my ultimate muse, continuously fueling my passion to celebrate the wonders of the natural world.“
Linda Lovell
Perfect for: Nature lovers and those drawn to landscapes and painterly textures. These pieces make a striking statement when featured as the focal point of a room.
Century Woodshop – All Things Wood With a Particular Focus On Turning
Instagram: CenturyWoodshop
Philip Lee, founder of Century Woodshop, transforms salvaged wood into timeless, tactile works of art. His handcrafted bowls, live-edge boards, and sculptural objects celebrate the natural beauty of the material—from intricate grain to bark, cracks, and scorched textures. Each piece embraces its imperfections as part of the story. Working with wood others discard, Philip uncovers the hidden jewel within, creating grounded, one-of-a-kind objects that honour the earth’s quiet richness.
“I have always loved working with wood in one form or another. I loved wood shop class at school and the scrap pile from my father’s construction business was my treasure trove. From tree forts to bookshelves to wood puzzles, I built what I could from whatever I could salvage. Life was simple… Now focused on turning bowls, I hope I can make something that you & yours can experience the same appreciation for the shape, colour and patterns which emerge from each rough log as it spins on the lathe.“
Philip Lee
Perfect for: Those who love earthy, soulful accents in their space. Philip’s work brings a sense of warmth and craftsmanship to kitchen styling, open shelving, or curated vignettes on a sideboard or console.
Jackie Kavanagh of Maple Weaves – Handwoven Art for Modern Homes
Instagram: @maple_weaves
Website: www.mapleweaves.ca
Jackie is a fibre artist who brings traditional weaving techniques into a modern context. Her wall hangings and sculptural weavings are textural and refined, adding softness and soul to clean, contemporary interiors. Each piece is handcrafted with intention and care — no two are ever alike.
“I create playful, visually dynamic fibre artwork using traditional hand weaving techniques. Weaving is a free flowing, spontaneous and meditative process for me, in contrast to my engineering career, which has been governed by rigid structure. I love the tactile experience of working with natural fibres and the challenge of creating abstract designs that leave room for personal interpretation. Every piece I create is a unique original. It excites me to create woven artwork that sparks curiosity about my chosen medium and delights the viewer.“
Jackie Kavanagh
Perfect for: Entryways, living rooms, and cozy corners that need warmth and a tactile touch. Fibre art like Jackie’s is a beautiful way to break up hard surfaces and add visual interest.
Pamela Mackenzie – Capturing the Moment
Instagram: @pamelamackenzie67
Pamela has a gift for seeing what others might overlook. Her photography captures deep affection for beauty in all its forms, whether it’s found in people, nature, manmade objects, or everyday items that often go unnoticed. With a lifelong passion for the visual arts, her work showcases her fascination with colour, light, texture and the abstract patterns she discovers in her subjects. Pamela’s art invites the viewer to engage without being confrontational.
“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.“
Dorothea Lange
Perfect for: Gallery walls, above a console table, or anywhere you want a sense of quiet storytelling.
