Orleans Bathroom Addition

Adding a Bathroom to a Basement Suite

The goal with this renovation project was to add a bathroom in place of a small storage room in a basement suite. We wanted to create a comfortable and easy to maintain bathroom that would allow aging in place. To achieve this, we included a grab bar for optimal support when entering and exiting the shower. To keep the space pleasing to the eye, we included a few things such as a hidden wall niche on the left hand side of the shower to store shampoo bottles, and a shower bench.

About to be transformed from an unfinished little nook used as a storage room was a well-lit, practical bathroom featuring a walk-in shower, heated floors, ample storage, and extremely useful grab bars for a safe and easy entry and exit.

The client’s favorite color is blue, so a large glossy blue subway tile seemed like the ideal choice for the shower walls. We chose a lovely penny round floor tile to draw the eye further. With mosaic tiles, additional grout lines improve traction and make the floors less slick.
